Our Signature Herbal Balm

Shiunko Purple Cloud Balm

Intro

Shiunko Purple Cloud Balm is a gentle and time-tested traditional Chinese herbal balm, suitable for a variety of skin conditions across different age groups. Drawing on both clinical experience in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) and classical literature references from Kampo, this balm has been widely used to support skin healing in a range of dermatological concerns.

Applicable Skin Conditions and Age-Specific Recommendations

According to TCM theory, Purple Cloud Balm works by clearing heat, cooling the blood, promoting circulation, detoxifying the skin, and encouraging tissue regeneration. It is particularly effective for conditions characterised by heat toxicity and poor wound healing.

General Adults

The balm is suitable for adults suffering from mild to moderate eczema(winter eczema), contact dermatitis, dry or irritated skin, and insect bites. It helps soothe inflammation, nourish the skin, and aid healing. It is ideal for individuals with a tendency toward “blood heat” or yin-deficient skin dryness, as defined in TCM.

Elderly

Older adults with fragile skin may benefit from the balm due to its nourishing and regenerating properties. It helps improve skin elasticity, supports microcirculation, and protects against minor abrasions and dryness.

Children

Children with mild eczema, prickly heat, skin irritation or bug bites may safely use the balm. Its natural, gentle ingredients are suitable for daily use on small areas.

Ingredients and Functions

  • Lithospermum erythrorhizon (Zi-cao): Clears heat, cools the blood, invigorates circulation, promotes healing. Pharmacological studies support its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and wound-repairing properties.
  • Angelica sinensis (Dang-gui): Tonifies and invigorates the blood, reduces inflammation, supports tissue regeneration. Known for anti-oxidant and immune-modulating effects.
  • Sesame Oil: Moisturises the skin, carries herbal ingredients deep into the tissue, rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids.

  • Beeswax: Forms a natural protective barrier, locks in moisture, and prevents external irritation. Provides a smooth texture and extends shelf life.

From a TCM perspective, this formulation addresses both the root and branch of skin pathology — harmonising blood and nourishing yin while clearing excess heat from the surface.

Precautions

Before use, we recommend conducting a small patch test to ensure there is no allergic reaction. If you are currently experiencing an acute or chronic skin condition, or are taking medications related to skin health, please consult a TCM practitioner at our clinic for tailored advice before using the balm.
